Living in Lee's Summit
My grandma lives in Lee's Summit, so I'm here often, and our family loves the shopping and restaurants.
It has a little of everything: a downtown people actually spend their Saturdays in, lakes close by, and neighborhoods that range from older homes near downtown to brand new construction. It's its own market, too. For a similar house, Lee's Summit usually costs more than Blue Springs, so the two aren't interchangeable. Property taxes still often run lower than parts of Kansas.
If you want shops, lakes, and lots of home choices in one place, Lee's Summit is hard to beat.
The parts of town people talk about
- Downtown Lee's Summit: boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, the farmers market, and events all year
- Legacy Park: trails, a lake, athletic fields, and a community center
- Longview Lake: boating, fishing, swimming, and trails
- Lea McKeighan Park South: playgrounds, pickleball, and walking paths
- Lakewood and Raintree: lake communities with their own amenities, each selling at its own level
Getting around
Highway 50, Highway 291, and Interstate 470 connect you to the rest of the metro. How long your commute takes depends a lot on the time of day, so drive your route before you commit to a house.
Schools
Most of Lee's Summit is served by the Lee's Summit R7 School District, with a few areas in neighboring districts. Check the exact address to be sure.
